In films from the first half of the 20th century and up to the late 1950s, there is a desire to tackle this new form of expression with optimism and audacity, but also difficult circumstances and broken dreams. Films examined include Fjalla-Eyvindur, Saga of the Citizenship, The Adventures of Jon and Gvendir, Hadda Padda, The Rescue at Látrabjarg, Between the Mountain and the Sea, The Last Farm in the Valley, Greed, and Salka Valka.
