A biographical film of Ben Hogan, from his start as a golf caddy to being considered one of golf's greatest players.

Glenn Ford is quite efficient as renowned golfer Ben Hogan in this tidy biopic of his life. Together with his wife Valerie (Anne Baxter - who provides quite an emotive narration, too), we follow his ground breaking career before they were both involved in a ghastly car accident that fractured his pelvis, collar bone and his ankle - all pretty debilitating for a golfer. His recuperation required some extensive medical and psychological efforts from all concerned before he could resume his career. Plenty of cinematic licence has been used here, the clothing, the characterisations and the timeline have been creatively adapted, but it is still quite an engaging history of a popular American sportsman who epitomised the spirit of professionalism and determination - even in the rain!
