Screen Souvenirs is a 1932 American short film. At the 5th Academy Awards, held in 1932, it was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Short Subject (Novelty).
Most of what joy there is here comes from a commentary that seems intent on parodying the five short silent film features that we see in this quickly paced and actually quite fun film. What any of these segments have to do with the other is anyone’s guess, but I did quite like the ladies’ fashion parade with pencil skirts and some truly ghastly frocks and also the moonshine-making husband whose wife pleads for his freedom when facing apprehension from his long-lost brother (a theme that pops up more than once here). As an homage to those stilted walks and big-eyed expressions, this works fine and for fans of cinema at it’s most nostalgic, this ought to work.
