Uluru is a significant sacred site for Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara people and a rare geological monolith, located five hours south of Alice Springs, Australia. Since the 1930’s it was legally permitted to climb the rock. After a chain was installed in 1964 to assist climbers, tens of thousands of people would climb Uluru each year. For nearly 90 years Anangu protested the climb, publicly requesting visitors to abstain from climbing until the Australian Government finally announced the climb would close in October, 2019. Quarks is a short documentary about the final days climbing was legally permitted on Uluru.
