The director finds recordings of his great-grandfather singing in Sámi, a language he cannot understand. The repercussions of the state-organised assimilation of the indigenous Sámi in Norway have taken many shapes – among them generational silence. In conversation with his grandmother, he tries to explore this lost heritage, a search facing the complexities of self-identification and effects of identity politics.
