Despite the happy ending they wrote for themselves, when someone steals the Universe of the Four Gods on Earth, Tamahome is ripped away from Miaka and transported back to Konan.

Tamahome's spirit has been switched with Nakago's, but there's more going on than meets the eye. Meanwhile, strange circumstances conspire to bring more than just Tamahome back to the book!

Miaka returns to the Universe of the Four Gods, and so do her Warriors. Tenko, the evil god Nakago once served, reveals himself and his plans to conquer the world.

Living with Taka, Tamahome's reincarnation on Earth, Miaka's peaceful life is disturbed only by strange dreams of Suzaku. That same day, however, an incident with her classmates leads to her and Taka being swallowed by a familiar red light.

Miaka and the Suzaku Warriors must find the Jewels of Memory before the demons do. Traveling to Konan, Miaka and the others meet with Empress Houki and Prince Boshin, and help them reunite with Hotohori.

Transported back to Earth, Taka and Miaka deal with Shigyo at school, who turns out to be much more than a student. Then, they are transported back to the book, where they help Nuriko reunite with his older brother.

Miaka and Taka are confronted by Tenko, who steals the Jewels of Memory from Taka. After, Tasuki's repressed love for Miaka finally boils to the surface.

A new threat emerges and kidnaps Miaka for Tenko. In order to get her back, Chichiri will need to face his own scars, as the demon has the face of his oldest friend and enemy.

Tamahome, the real one, shows up, and Taka's confusion over his identity grows when even Miaka and the other Warriors can't tell the difference. But once the situation becomes clear, they'll still have Tenko to deal with.

Though three years have passed since Miaka first disappeared into the Universe of the Four Gods, the story is not over. The book shows up again in the hands of Mayo Sakaki, a girl harboring a destructive crush on Taka. When she disappears into the book, Taka follows after her, and learns of a new threat.

In order to save the land inside the book, Taka, Chichiri, and Tasuki must find the Suzaku Warriors other than themselves, who have since reincarnated. But their search is hindered by the false Priestess of Suzaku, who seems to be convinced the Seven are trying to kill her.

The search for the remaining reincarnated warriors continues. However, the darkness plaguing the land only increases as the negative emotions welling up within Mayo boil over.

As Mayo slides into despair, the Universe of the Four Gods crumbles. However, with the Suzaku Seven reassembled, it might just be possible to write another happy ending.
