In 1919 Jerusalem, a poor but determined Rosa finds work cleaning at a local delicatessen, where she becomes drawn to the owners' handsome son, Gabriel. However, Gabriel's heart is already consumed by Rochel, an Ashkenazi woman his family strictly forbids him from being with.
