My name is Luís Ferreira, a filmmaker and photographer born in Porto in 2005. From a very young age, I discovered in the image a way of understanding the world, first through photography, beside my father, and later through cinema, where I found my true artistic voice. I like to explore emotion, silence, and the weight of light. For me, every frame is a way of telling something that words cannot.
Over the past few years, I have directed several short films that have allowed me to grow as an author and gain recognition both inside and outside Portugal. My short film Whispers of Darkness was selected and nominated at international festivals such as the NanoCon International Film Festival and the MoCo Youth Media Festival, both in the United States, as well as the Bienal de Arte Jovem de Vila do Conde and Embrace Your Darkness in Lisbon, where it received an Honourable Mention. It was also part of multiple editions of the Lift-Off Global Network at Pinewood Studios (United Kingdom). Other works, such as Blood in My Eyes, earned 2nd place at the Mad Jam Fest and were selected for the Desmond District Demons Film Festival (USA).
In photography, I had the honour of seeing my work recognised with an Honourable Mention in the national competition Insetos Polinizadores and an international award from the British magazine The Week Junior Science + Nature Magazine. Seeing one of my photographs published and awarded abroad was a special moment, a reminder that art can truly cross borders.
I was also distinguished with the Excellence Award by Escola Secundária José Régio and the Municipality of Vila do Conde for my academic and artistic achievements. I completed secondary school with an average grade of 18.5 out of 20, achieving top marks (20/20) in every internship and in my final Professional Aptitude Project.
Alongside my authorial work, I have carried out photographic and videographic documentation for various cultural, academic, and artistic events, such as activities at ESMAD and ESJR, concerts, exhibitions, the FEUP Engineering Festival, artistic performances at the Soares dos Reis Museum, and several recreational and institutional events including Medieval and Regional Fairs and commemorative celebrations.
Today, I continue to create with the same desire to experiment and to move people. What motivates me most is the power of image to transform the invisible into memory. Whether through cinema or photography, my goal is simple: to touch those who watch, even if just for a moment.
