Gunnar Magnússon was an Icelandic furniture designer and craftsman, widely regarded as one of the country’s most important modern design voices. Educated both in Iceland and Denmark, he became known for combining Nordic functionalism with a distinctly poetic, sculptural sensibility. His furniture often emphasised clean lines, natural materials, and a deep respect for craftsmanship, creating works that were at once practical and timeless.
Beyond his design work, Gunnar was a teacher and mentor, influencing generations of Icelandic designers. He collaborated across disciplines, and his pieces are still celebrated for their quiet elegance and ability to capture the essence of Icelandic culture and landscape through form and material.
