Uwana Anthony ‘Churchy is a multidisciplinary artist and filmmaker, with a primary focus on film, visual art & performance. Hailing from Akwa-Ibom, Nigeria, Anthony’s creative journey began at a young age, serving as a coping mechanism for the untimely loss of his father and the challenges of growing up in Nigeria’s vibrant south-south region. His early immersion in the world of art allowed him to channel his emotions and curiosity into surreal, emotionally charged, and thought-provoking works that reflect a profound understanding of human complexity.

Despite being self-taught, Anthony’s unwavering dedication and his unique fusion of realism and illusion have given birth to captivating film narratives and visual artworks. His creations inspire, captivate, and challenge audiences.

Currently based in Lagos, Nigeria, Anthony Churchy, remains a growing artist pushing the limit everyday. His creative journey spans film, visual art, and design. Influenced by Majid Majidi and Andrei Tarkovsky, Anthony blends realism with illusion to create immersive narratives that challenge norms and highlight African culture. Central to his practice is “Afro-contemporary Symbolism,” an approach that employs simple elements to convey deeper socio-cultural narratives through erratic & unconventional techniques. His work provokes discourse, inspires change, and celebrates human resilience. Anthony’s work is a testament to the transformative power of storytelling, inviting viewers to explore the complexities and richness of African culture, history, and identity.
