Steve Haining

December 25, 1988 — Hamilton, Ontario, Canada

Born on December 25, 1988, in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, Steve Haining is a Guinness World Record-holding photographer and an internationally award-winning filmmaker. His creative journey began in the early 2000s while touring North America as a musician. During that time, he developed a strong reputation as a band photographer, which led to opportunities with major music brands including MuchMusic, MTV, Universal Music, Warner, and Vagrant Records.

Between 2008 and 2015, Haining built a successful career in commercial and editorial portrait photography, working extensively with public figures-particularly actors and musicians-as well as prominent brands. In 2015, while continuing his global work as a commercial photographer, he transitioned into cinematography, quickly establishing himself as a sought-after Director, DOP and Producer for TV commercials, corporate content, and music videos. His transition from still photography to motion picture work came naturally, further expanding his reputation in the visual arts industry.

By 2018, Haining evolved once again, this time into directing and producing television pilots and commercial advertisements. In 2019, he achieved a major milestone by directing and serving as Director of Photography for the award-winning feature documentary *The Long Ride Home*. The series received international acclaim, earning accolades for Best Documentary, Best Cinematography, and Best Social Impact Film. Despite the challenges presented by the 2020 global lockdowns, the documentary saw a sequel. Both films have since been adopted as educational material in Canadian colleges, forming a foundation for Indigenous studies curricula and continuing to earn recognition worldwide.

In 2023, Haining divided his time between Toronto, Canada, and Orlando, Florida, working on a range of film and television projects in the roles of Producer, Director, Director of Photography, Editor, and Assistant Director. His recent works include his debut horror film *Lianne* and the Amazon Prime series *Tru North*. In 2025, he made history once again by setting a new Guinness World Record for the deepest underwater portrait photoshoot-a feat that made history being the first photoshoot with the removal of scuba gear beyond the no-decompression limits of professional diving.

Steve Haining continues to push the boundaries of visual storytelling across multiple disciplines, with a creative vision rooted in innovation, technical mastery, and impactful storytelling.
