Niladri Roy, born and raised in Kolkata, grew up in the city's rich cultural and musical fabric, where he developed a deep affinity for storytelling. This passion eventually led him to pursue a career in film editing.
An alumnus of Patha Bhavan and Calcutta University, Roy stepped into the world of cinema at an early age, immersing himself in projects that tested his craft and broadened his perspective. Over the years, he has edited films, documentaries, music videos, ad films, corporate films etc. His feature films include - Shankhachil (winner of the 63rd National Award for Best Bengali Film), Raahgir, Mahalaya, and the international project Parikrama - to name a few.
In 2025, Roy's work on Moving Focus won the National Film Award for Best Editing (Non-Feature). This recognition marked an important milestone in his journey.
Apart from editing, he is passionate about music. He plays multiple instruments and enjoys experimenting with sounds. This musical sensibility informs his approach to editing, infusing his work with rhythm, flow, and emotional resonance. Looking ahead, he envisions exploring the intersection of music and cinema even further, finding new ways to blend music with storytelling.
