Frances Hounsom is a British makeup and hair designer. She studied fine art at Central Saint Martins before specialising in makeup and hair design at the London College of Fashion. Early in her career, she worked in supporting roles—assisting more established artists, observing their methods, and gradually building her own opportunities through persistence and networking. Over time, she expanded her skills to include wig-making, prosthetic application, tattoo work, and elaborate hairstyling techniques like braiding, extensions, and facial hair design.
Hounsom has contributed to both film and television projects worldwide. Some of credits include Magic Mike’s Last Dance (2023), The Tattooist of Auschwitz (2024), and Black Bag (2025), among others. She is also credited on the Netflix series The Letter for the King (2020), where she was responsible for hair, makeup, and prosthetics design.
In 2021, Frances Hounsom won a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Hairstyling for a Drama or Daytime Fiction Program for her work on The Letter for the King (2020).
She is represented by United Talent Agency (UTA) and is based in the UK and New York.
