Luca Vannella

Luca Vannella is an Emmy-nominated hairstylist. At just seventeen years old, he began his journey in hairstyling in central Rome, where he developed a deep appreciation for the imaginative and creative artistry of hairdressing. After two years of honing his craft in Italy, he relocated to London to study at the prestigious Toni & Guy Academy, graduating with the highest honours. His talent quickly propelled him to the role of Style Director at the Marylebone salon in Central London, before he eventually returned to Italy to pursue a career in the film industry.

Vannella's expertise and growing reputation earned him a wealth of high-profile film credits. Among his early notable works are Snow White and the Huntsman (2012) and Thor: The Dark World (2013), both of which garnered him recognition at the Premio Chioma di Berenice—he won Best Hair Design for Snow White and the Huntsman and earned a nomination for Thor: The Dark World. He expanded his portfolio with acclaimed blockbusters such as Thor: Ragnarok(2017), Avengers: Infinity War (2018), and Avengers: Endgame (2019), working as Hair Department Head or Personal Hairstylist for actors like Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, and Mark Ruffalo. His collaborations also include Men in Black: International (2019), Extraction (2020) and Extraction 2 (2023), Stillwater (2021), and The Last Duel (2021), often serving as Hair Designer or Department Head.

In the realm of television, Vannella earned major recognition for his work on Penny Dreadful (2014). In 2017, he received nominations for both the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Hairstyling for a Single-Camera Series—specifically for the episode "Ebb Tide," which he shared with Alexis Continente, Sevlene Roddy, Joe Whelan, and Orla Carrol—and the Hollywood Makeup Artist and Hair Stylist Guild Award for Best Period and/or Character Hair Styling – Television and New Media Series, along with Alexis Continente.

More recently, Vannella was acknowledged for his outstanding hairstyling in the epic film Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga(2024). In 2025, he received the AACTA Award for Best Hair and Makeup along with Lesley Vanderwalt, Larry Van Duynhoven, and Matteo Silvi. That same year, he was also nominated by the Minnesota Film Critics Alliance for Best Makeup and Hairstyling, and the film had earlier been nominated at the Astra Creative Arts Awards in 2024 for Best Makeup and Hairstyling.
