Chris Lentz

Chris Lentz is an animation supervisor at DNEG. Originally from Washington, D.C., he studied at the Rhode Island School of Design, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting, and later completed a Master of Fine Arts in Character Animation at the University of the Arts. Alongside his professional career, he continued to pursue personal artistic interests in photography and sculpture.

Lentz began his career working on major feature films, including X-Men (2000), The Matrix Reloaded (2003), and The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (2005). His work gained particular recognition with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II (2011), where he contributed to the animation of the Gringotts Dragon. This earned him and his team a nomination at the Visual Effects Society Awards in 2012 for Outstanding Animated Character in a Live Action Feature Motion Picture.

From 2012 to 2014, Lentz worked at Industrial Light & Magic’s Singapore studio, where he started as Lead Animator on The Avengers (2012). In 2016, he joined ILM’s London studio as an Animation Supervisor, contributing to films such as Pacific Rim (2013), Star Trek Into Darkness (2013), Godzilla (2014), Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (2016), Transformers: The Last Knight (2017), and Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018). For his work on Pacific Rim, he and his colleagues received the Hollywood Post Alliance Award in 2013 for Outstanding Visual Effects – Feature Film, and in 2014, he was nominated for the Annie Award for Outstanding Achievement in Character Animation in a Live Action Production.

In 2022, Lentz joined DNEG’s London studio as Animation Supervisor and supervised Venom: The Last Dance (2024).
