Helena Rodríguez Gómez

Helena Rodríguez Gómez is an independent journalist specialized in conducting cross-border collaborative investigations. Her reports, published in outlets such as Al Jazeera, Mediapart, IRPI Media, Diari Ara, El Salto, Climática, and La Marea, cover environmental issues such as industrial and military pollution, the restoration of carbon-rich ecosystems, and the challenges and contradictions of the energy transition, as well as social issues such as sexual violence at borders as a deterrent strategy against asylum seekers, forced motherhood resulting from sexual assaults along migration routes, or the role of rural women in peacebuilding in Colombia. She is currently working on projects that investigate the opaque global waste trade, the violence and militarized conservation of natural areas in Global South countries, and the extraction of critical minerals in protected areas. At the academic level, she has also researched the impact of carbon credits on Colombian peasant communities and the influence that climate justice and solutions journalism framing can have on audiences. She holds a master’s degree in Journalism, Media, and Globalization from Aarhus University and the University of Amsterdam, and a bachelor’s degree in Journalism from the Autonomous University of Barcelona.
