
Cristina Solano Mata is a Costa Rican filmmaker who works in production, screenwriting, and directing. Recurrent themes in her work include spirituality, dreams, and connections to nature. With Todas las Lunas (Under the Moonlight, 2020), she started a film career that would continue with El porqué de las lágrimas (Butterfly Tears, 2023), which has screened at festivals such as the ICARO Central American International Film Festival and the Lúdico Latin American Film Festival, where Todas las Lunas won Best National Short Film. With intimate and atmospheric storytelling, she reflects a sensitivity to poetry and genres such as fantasy, horror, and experimental film. Her most recent short film is currently in the distribution phase. La noche que nos cubre (The path we cannot see) portrays two young sisters exploring the paranormal.
