Roxanne Jones McCarthy

Roxanne Jones McCarthy lived a remarkable life filled with love, laughter, family, animals, and an extraordinary career in the motion picture industry.

Roxanne began her career in entertainment in the mid-1970s, with her first screen credit on the legendary Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope in 1977. She went on to become a talented sound editor and supervising sound editor, working behind the scenes on many memorable films and television productions, including The A-Team, Real Genius, Adventures in Babysitting, Kindergarten Cop, Beethoven, A Walk in the Clouds, Bottle Rocket, and Can't Hardly Wait. Her dedication to her craft earned her a Motion Picture Golden Reel Award in 1983. She eventually owned and operated her own sound editorial company, On Track Sound.

In 1998, Roxanne retired from the film industry to devote herself to her family and raising her son, Kaysen. While her professional accomplishments were extraordinary, her greatest accomplishments were the people she loved.

Roxanne was a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished sister, and beloved daughter. She was funny, warm, caring, and deeply family-oriented. She had a wonderful sense of humor and a gift for bringing laughter and joy to the people around her. Her family was always at the center of her heart.

Roxanne also had an incredible love for animals, especially horses. She grew up surrounded by horses and had the opportunity to ride in both the Rose Parade and the Hollywood Christmas Parade. Her love for animals remained a special part of who she was throughout her life.

After leaving Hollywood, Roxanne continued giving her time and heart to others. She became a room mother and later head of the PTA at Good Shepherd Lutheran School in Simi Valley. She also volunteered through her church, helping feed people experiencing homelessness.

Roxanne spent her final years in Big Bear City with her husband, Tom. After a long battle with dementia, she passed away peacefully on April 28, 2026.

Today, we gather not only to mourn her passing, but to celebrate her life. We celebrate the little girl who loved horses, the talented woman who helped create movies that generations would enjoy, the mother who devoted herself to her family, and the loving, funny woman whose laughter and kindness touched so many lives.

Her work will live on through the movies she helped create, but her greatest legacy will always be the love she gave her family.

Roxanne will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
