
Vangelis Protopapas (Tinos 1917 - May 21, 1995) was a Greek actor.
He was originally from Messolonghi and was the son of a senior judicial officer. His father, Dimitrios Protopapas, a first-instance judge and member of parliament, intended him to be a lawyer, but in his first year of law school he decided to pursue a career as an actor, studying at the National Theatre School where he enrolled in 1937. He interrupted his studies in 1938 for military service, and graduated in 1942, with honors in the top ten. He was a friend of Dimitris Horn, with whom he graduated together, of the director Alexis Solomos, as well as of Melina Mercouri.
He had important roles in the films A Hero in Slippers (1958), Santa Chikita (1953), The Fake Pound (1955), The Jealous Cat (1956), Miss 39 (1954), etc., all with Vasilis Logothetides, with whom he was closely friends, but also in the television series Police Officer Thanasis Papathanasis (1990), Androcles and His Lions (1985), etc.
He was also the Director of the Municipal Theater of Argos. He participated in many television and radio series. E. Protopappas was also a painter, and left behind several works.
