Gary and his dog Pal are having fun working on make-believe crime cases, though Gary's father, a city detective, disapproves. Gary and Pal soon find themselves involved in a real case involving fur thieves.

Young Gary and his friend who nurse a wounded dog back to health, unaware he was trained by a crook to act as a lookout during bank robberies.

Gary's father sells his beloved dog, Pal, to a movie studio. Lonesome for his master, Pal escapes the film set and embarks on a long journey home. Realizing the dog will only cooperate with his owner, the movie director ultimately signs Gary to a film contract as well.
